In 2006, the UK started purchasing the first batch of Mastiff Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles based on the Cougar MRAP vehicle for the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Later, the UK decided to develop the Mastiff 2 in response to the problems exposed in operation like the insufficient mobility and passability, and deformation of seats and hatches after being hit by mines. In June 2009, the Mastiff 2 entered service with the British military. This vehicle has improved axles, suspension, run flat tires and explosion proof fuel tank. Spall liners made of elastic fibre are laid on the inside walls of the troop compartment. Blast attenuating seats are installed in the vehicle and the crew capacity has been increased to 10. In July 2020, with the gradual withdrawal of western troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, the UK announced that a number of armoured vehicles, including the Mastiff 2, would be retired from active duty. In April 2022, the UK announced that it would provide Ukraine with about 80 armoured vehicles including the Mastiff 2.

This Meng SS-012 1/35 British Mastiff 2 6x6 Wheeled Protected Patrol Vehicle model kit features one-piece slat armour parts and a rotatable roof mounted weapon station. Clear Light and optical parts are included. Two layers of clear parts are used to replicate the thick bullet-proof glass. The window parts are light green as on the real vehicle. All doors can be built in the open or closed position. The troop compartment features precision interiors. Seats and the soft roof of the troop compartment are designed by digital sculpting. Seat safety belts and tires made of quality vinyl material are realistic. The tires feature fine tread patterns. This kit includes precision photo etched parts and two paint schemes.
